Review - Regreening
From Friday 11th to Sunday 13th of October we participated in the Regreening. It was organized by the green organizations of Wageningen and it offered workshops, games, sustainable food and a lot of fun. We could even experience how does it feel to live in an eco-village since participants could camp in Ppauw and a lot of the activities were held there.
On Friday we did a tour through Ppauw and we had dinner from Foodsharing. In the evening we also played different games to get to know each other and we even made a poetry slam in which each organization exposed their activities through a poem (see below the poem that Otherwise wrote).
On Saturday we played vegan fox hunting and after it, we had lunch in Thuis. In the afternoon we visited the Organic Experimental Farm ‘Droevendaal’, we had dinner there, and then we moved back to Ppauw to have a party with music bands and DJs.
Finally, on Sunday we went to the Creative Community Garden to do a music jam, and a Do It Yourself workshop to learn how to make deodorant and toothpaste.
Regreening is a great opportunity to meet green-minded people in Wageningen, as well as to get to know the green organizations from the town and the different projects that they carry on.
Otherwise poem for the Regreening 2019
We see sustainability
Linked to inclusivity
What is the world you like to see?
Do you include the interplay
of nature, animals and all of humanity?
We explore alternative pathways
To the current state of our society
Inner sustainability
Is a way to learn to relate and reconnect
We play with the forest, use theatre as a mean
To shape and form a new reality
First connection, then act!
We recognise the other and give minorities a voice
We disrupt dogmatic status quo and show that we have a choice
We rejoice old ways, new ways of knowing, giving a stage to diverse thoughts
We inspire students to see things otherwise, to see things bottom up
With a participatory approach
Critical thought
And a lot of otherwise love
We empower others to become
Change agents, resisting existing forces of power, moving towards a holistic existence in this last hour before climate change changes our prospects dramatically.
We reflect on science and how it shapes our minds and creates knowledge
Is there still space in science to think otherwise and acknowledge other ways of being, seeing, or are they being abolished?
What is it that we do, you may wonder
We host lectures, workshops, movie nights, dialogues and everything under the sky that you can think of to provide students with insights inspiration and an embodied sense of how to act otherwise
So we are and integrative, creative, holistic idealistic bunch
And also we like to drink a lot of tea and share dinners and lunch
Twenty years already we are existing, we keep emerging in the face of injustice
Fostering sustainability while embracing complexity, to do reality justice
To finalise, i'll put it simple,
maybe we are just activists in desguise
It comes from being passionate about doing it OtherWise
